Day 1 | His Father Saw Him Coming

Command:

Read:

From a long distance away, his father saw him coming, and great compassion swelled up in his heart for his son who was returning home. Luke 15:20 (TPT)

Reflect:

As a father, I know the deep paternal attachment we have to our children. Parents are intricately connected to their offspring. We are woven together. Our souls often seem in sync. We experience this symbiosis in our core. When our child laughs, we feel their joy. If our child cries, we are distressed. When they are traumatized, we ache. When they thrive, we feel fulfilled. When they fail, we are deflated. When they are out late, we wait up. When they are away from home, they hover in the back of our minds. We look for their call, we anticipate their text.

When they reject us, our hearts are torn, and the pain seems unbearable. An estranged child is a heavy weight. We are attached from conception and detachment is as unnatural as it is miserable. We long for their return; to have them back in their rightful place.

Even more so our source, our heavenly father attaches to his children. See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! 1 John 3:1 (NIV)

When we ignore his faithful presence, when we neglect to call in prayer, when we leave for a season or are estranged, God is grieved. And he waits. Gazing into the distance, his eye ever on the horizon, hoping to see our silhouette approaching. Coming home.

When we come to our senses the Father, who is never too far, notices and rushes to our heart. Eager to cleanse. Ready to abundantly fill.

React:

Don’t keep him waiting.

Pray:

Abba Father…[Pray what is in your heart. He longs to hear from you.]
