Week 3 | Day 4 | Love at First Sight

Command:

Beware of Coveting/Greed - Luke 12:15

Read:

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:20 (NIV)

Reflect:

Growing up, I often found myself shopping at swap meets, resale stores, and garage sales. I was always in awe of those who had the knack for spotting true treasures amidst seemingly endless piles of rubble, clothing racks, and aging boxes.

Yet, as time passed, these "treasures" that my loved ones collected slowly morphed into hoards. Pests and decay took their toll not only on these items but also on our family bonds. Our attachment to material possessions robbed us of the chance to share our lives, our spaces, and, most crucially, our hearts. This misplaced affection overshadowed the true essence of love and connection.

I take solace in Jesus' teachings about the treasures we can amass in heaven — a place where God's blessings are immune to decay or theft. As I navigate life, seeking His love and purpose, I've learned to recognize the real treasures that promise eternity. In doing so, I've found joy, hope, and a clearer perspective, even when life's path gets messy.

React:

Reflect on an area of your life that feels cluttered and could benefit from some decluttering. Can you make room not only in your physical space but also in your heart, by letting go of things that lack lasting significance?

Pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for granting us the clarity to release what holds no eternal value. Guide us to perceive You as the most precious treasure. Nothing in this world compares to the value of our bond with You. Amen.
